As the company founder/CEO of Shams Consulting LLC, Khalid provides expert opinions on the discovery and innovation space related to life sciences applications. His company incubates early-stage ideas with the purpose of creating independent spin-off companies, while using transformational skills to move products from discovery to market. He has substantial experience with active discovery, target identification and HTS screening, deployment of pre-clinical models, med chem, natural products, traditional data mining, and data analytics, and familiarity with synthetic biology and biomimicry principles, as well as emerging science in this area. In previous projects, Khalid has worked to develop products in the following areas: natural products for skin health, pain, allergy, anti-viral, diabetes, microbiome, healthy sleep, DSHEA, and nutrition and health, including toxicology and safety, efficacy, intellectual property, familiarity of science and molecular targets, and in vitro and in vivo science associated with these areas.
Before founding Shams, Khalid spent 13 years with Johnson & Johnson, where he initiated cross-sector collaborations, created an early development ecosystem, forged collaborations with internal and external stakeholders and strategic partners, and understood the franchise needs of new product development and discovered matching external opportunities. He was also involved in contract and research programs initiation, negotiation, and fundraising. As a Project Leader for JNJ Consumer coordinates, Khalid has worked with stakeholders from sectors of JNJ and suppliers and also worked with JNJ pharma colleagues to deploy natural products for skin care, oral care, and Pharma needs. Khalid has also held positions at Galileo Pharmaceuticals, Inc., where he discovered and patented natural products for skin lifting and acne skin conditions; and at Bionutrics/Incon Technologies, LLC, where he manufactured high purity vitamins, sterols/stanols, omega fatty acids, and tocotrienols from natural spent process streams. In the course of his career, Khalid has received 24 issued patents, written 27 publications, and given 10 presentations at meetings.
