The Rutgers MBS Externship Exchange provides a transformative experience that bridges the gap between academia and industry, giving you a competitive edge in your career journey. We prepare diverse, talented, and driven students to learn, lead, and embody excellence. Through this program, students collaborate on real-world projects with leading companies, nonprofits, and government agencies, all while receiving expert guidance and developing essential skills.

Understanding
the Difference
Externships and Internships are valuable pre-professional experiences that are often confused, but they offer distinct learning opportunities. Internships are commonly one-on-one relationships with an employer (company) or a mentor, with the mentor choosing the intern. Externships are team-based projects happening in a campus setting with the Externship staff matching students into project teams with pre-assigned mentors. While both provide valuable opportunities to gain exposure to a particular industry or field, externships focus on team-building skills in the context of a technical or business project.
