Rutgers Global Health Institute Student Council

Rutgers Global Health Institute’s student council works to advance global health engagement opportunities for students throughout Rutgers. The council for the 2021–2022 academic year includes nearly 80 undergraduate and graduate students from 19 schools across Rutgers locations.

The council represents the student voice at the institute and works to foster global health collaboration across Rutgers’ academic disciplines. Stories about the council’s activities and members can be found on our news page. Council members are either recommended by an institute core faculty member or complete a self-nomination form (available in September each year) for consideration.

2019 RGHI Student Council

Members of the first Rutgers Global Health Institute Student Council (November 2019)

Each member serves on the council for up to two years, and new students are invited to join each fall. The council’s leadership includes two co-presidents and committee co-chairs—two for each of the following committees:

Career Pathway Awareness and Alumni Engagement—to make information and involvement opportunities related to career pathways in global health more accessible to Rutgers students, and to connect with Rutgers alumni working in global health and related fields.

Global Health Education and Community Outreach—to represent student needs in global health education and support community needs through outreach and education. Committee members may advocate for global health educational opportunities and identify diverse avenues for global health engagement. They may also organize and distribute educational and public health resources to address current issues faced by both Rutgers and communities in need.

Global Health Case Competition—to work with institute staff and core faculty to establish an interdisciplinary, case-based learning experience. Through this experience, Rutgers students will develop, and potentially implement, solutions to real-life global health challenges. (Read about the 2021 case competition.)

Student Organization Collaboration—to foster collaboration among student organizations to spread awareness about global health throughout Rutgers.
